Also starring are John Cho (“The Exorcist”), Betty Gilpin (“Glow”), Jacki Weaver and Frankie Faison. Sam Raimi‘s latest production also features horror veteran Lin Shaye( Insidious) with Demian Bichir ( The Nun). There are no cat sounds here and no sign of the little boy ghost (Toshio), but Kayako and her long black hair make quite the entrance. Once she enters, the curse latches onto her and won’t let go. In theaters next year, Sony has released the film’s first trailer that follows a detective ( Andrea Riseborough) who investigates a serious of suspicious deaths all stemming from one house. The curse of The Grudge has been reborn with the Nicolas Pesce-directed “sidequel”/remake that takes place during the events of the Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring sequel. With that, I love J-horror and welcome any attempt at a resurgence. It was an unfortunate time being that the Japanese originals were so potent only to see the new interpretations get lost in translation. Unfortunately, all of the other American interpretations that followed were god awful, especially that of The Grudge and its sequel both starring Sarah Michele Gellar. In the early 2000s, J-horror came to the States with a remake of The Ring, easily one of the best horror films ever made.
